Community Information Meeting on Arena Expansion — May 5th

I am writing to invite you to attend an important community meeting in the William Lea Room at Leaside Gardens on Wednesday, May 5th at 7:00 pm.

There have been a number of developments related to the arena expansion project in the past few months and I believe it’s time for our user groups and all interested members of the Leaside community to hear about these latest developments and where we go from here. Expansion Committee Chair Paul Mercer will conduct the meeting and the agenda will include an update on anticipated project timelines, a report on our commitment to making this a fully “Green” initiative, a chance to look at a visual representation of the proposed new rink, and an opportunity for questions and answers. Councillor John Parker and MPP Kathleen Wynne, whose help and support of this project continue to be greatly appreciated, are both expected to be in attendance. This will be a tightly-focused meeting, all reports will be brief with time for questions, and we intend to be finished before 8:30p.m. I hope you will plan to attend.

Bob Dale to be recognized for service to Leaside Gardens and community

Also at the meeting on May 5th, the 2010 Peter Oyler Award for outstanding service to Leaside Arena and the Leaside community will be presented to Bob Dale. Bob was an alderman in the former Borough of East York as well as Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee. He was a long-time member of the arena board and also served as its chair. We are delighted that Bob will be able to attend this meeting and that Peter Oyler will also be on hand to present the award in recognition of Bob’s long and distinguished record of service to the community.

Yuk Yuks event was a great success

I am also pleased to report that the Yuk Yuks Comedy Night on February 26th was a tremendous success: the event was completely sold out, everyone had an enjoyable evening, and over $20,000 was raised, all of which will go to help the arena board promote the building of the second rink. Thank you to all who attended the event. I add a special word of thanks to board member Charlene Kalia for her initiative in organising this event and to her team of volunteers for all their hard work in making it happen.

Once again, I hope to see you at the Community Information Meeting on Arena Expansion in the William Lea Room at 7:00 p.m. on May 5th. And I encourage you to pass this message along to everyone interested in the future of our local arena.

Regards,

Brooke Biscoe
